Vintage video games we loved playing growing up in the 2000s

Growing up in the 2000s was an amazing experience. As kids in this decade, we created fun by engaging in all sort of games such hide & seek, the famous ‘chaskele’ and the outrageous ‘pilolo’. Life just seemed to be simpler then. A new addition to these games was the video game. Yes, those little gadgets called consoles with software that had us worrying our parents to purchase us a copy or escaping house duties to a friend just to play for a short while.
Through these video games, we made great memories and somehow expanded our imagination that we have cherished up to date.

I’m S from steezers info and today’s article we look back at 10 vintage games we loved to play whiles growing up in the 2000s;

Chicken Invaders

First to make it on the list is Chicken Invaders. The shoot ‘em up video game which was mostly played on PC (for at least those of us who owned one), was very fun to play back in the day. Who can forget this outrageous game which revolved around the player (who in this case is a lone spacecraft) shoots at technologically advanced race of space faring chickens. Sounds interesting right? And it was! We couldn’t help but love this game as kids. Who can forget the funny noise made by the chickens when they are killed right before they turn into fried chicken or omelette that can be consumed by the spacecraft.

Chicken invaders was developed by InterAction Games and the first edition was released in 1999 just before the new millennium begun.

Did you know: Chicken Invaders portrays strong parodies of
Galatia, star trek, space invaders and star wars.

Tetris

I know this might not be everybody’s favourite but we all played it once in a while and some of us actually loved it. Now most of us loved to hate this game because of its seemingly difficulty. All you had to do was to manipulate tetriminos (the group of four boxes which are formed in various shapes) by moving them sideways with the aim of creating a horizontal line of ten units without any gap. Sounds simple, but it wasn’t back then.

Tetris was developed by Russian game developer Alexey Pajitnov and was first released in 1984.

Mortal Kombat 4

Third on our list is the famous Mortal Kombat series. The fighting game series has many editions but I’d like to emphasize one of the most prominent, the fourth edition, MK4.
The game gave players the opportunity to select a character out of ten which consisted of Liu Kang, Raiden, Jax, Tanya, Sonya blade, Jarek and the rest. Players then battled their way through the other fighters according to selected difficulty to the boss fight against Shinnok right after a tough fight with Gorro.
The game was played by almost every 2000s kid and was adored due its amazing fighting and power moves, whilst it will be always remembered for the funny noises made by characters during gameplay and the outrageous fatality moves.

Mortal Kombat 4 was developed by the then Midway Games and was released in 1997.

Did you know: MK4 contains a cheat code that allows Gorro to be used by the player and contains hidden characters such as Noob Saibot.

Street Fighter II

Another fighting game on our list is Street Fighter II. It was not as popular as the former on our list, but it did make an impact on our childhood. Similar to Mortal Kombat, the game players had the choice to select a fighter (preferably Ryu) to undertake in a competition and challenge a series of fighters in order to win.
But Street Fighter had its differences as it was anime themed and features in a more
realistic world with actual dialogues between fighters. Characters could also perform unique moves such as the famous ‘Hadouken’ performed by Ryu.
Other iconic characters include Chun-Li, Ken, Blanka and an ensemble of others.

Street Fighter was first released in 1987 by Capcom Games.

Did you know: Street Fighter II is the fifth best-selling Super Nintendo Entertainment System video game with over 6,300,000 units sold.

Winning Eleven 8

Now we move on to what is probably the best association football game in history. Fifth on our list is World Soccer Winning Eleven 8 International also known as Pro Evolution Soccer 4.
This game was pacesetter for the WE/PES franchise and was popular way before FIFA became common.
Gamers enjoyed it for its game-play on and off the pitch as well as iconic Master League mode which allowed players to develop their own team.
The game made a huge impact in association football games and is still played by some people who just can’t let it go.

Developed by Konami Entertainment and released in 2004, the game was the fourth installment to the franchise.

Did you kow: For the first time in the franchise, the game features a fully animated on-pitch referee and a linesman who only appeared to disallow offside goals.

FIFA ’98

Next on our list is a counterpart of the former but released six years earlier is FIFA ’98: Road to World Cup. This FIFA game was just as iconic as WE08 although it had lower graphics quality. Gamers had the chance to play against each other with different club and national teams.

It also featured the Road to World Cup mode where players could select a national team and play in qualifiers to the World Cup finals which was hosted in France.

FIFA ’98 was released by EA Sports in 1997.

Did you know: The game featured for the first time in the franchise, individual faces for each player in the game.

Need For Speed: Most Wanted

Should I call it one of the best racing video games or ‘the’ best racing video game. Either way, Need for Speed: Most Wanted was just awesome.
The game follows a story-line whereby the player climbs his way to the top of the street racing world in Rosewood by completing races and milestones to challenge members of the Blacklist.
The game was adored by the multitude for it’s amazing graphics and game-play as well as intriguing story-line.

NFSMW was developed by EA Games and was released in 2005.

Did you know: NFSMW is the best-selling release in the NFS series.

Total Overdose

Imagine this, a video game that allows you to turn live chicken to fried chicken in a matter of seconds by shooting them. Sounds familiar? Well that is not all that Total Overdose is about. It is totally different from just that.
The game is a third-person shooter video game that follows the adventure of Ramiro as he uncovers the death of his father and takes revenge on a drug cartel in Mexico.
The game was enjoyed for awesome gun sequences and loco moves as well as amazing graphics.

Total Overdose was developed by Deadline Games for Microsoft Windows and was released in 2005.

GTA: San Andreas

Talk about one of the best open-world video games that bring so many childhood memories and only one video game franchise comes to mind; the Grand Theft Auto franchise. And the best of them of the 2000s was GTA: San Andreas.
The game follows the story Carl Johnson popularly known as CJ as he tries to rebuild his family and street gang in a tale of betrayal, deceit, crime, violence and so on.

People loved the game for all sorts of things that can be done with the main character, CJ. The game allowed driving of various vehicles, air travel, change of clothes and haircut, parachuting and so on.

Although the graphics was not the best, the game will still remain one of the best video games of all-time and we do cherish a lot memories with it.

GTA: San Andreas was developed by Rockstar North and was released in 2005.

Did you Know: The plot is based on real life events in Los Angeles including rivalry between street gangs, the 1980s crack epidemic, LAPD rampart scandal and 1992 LA riots.

Super Mario Bros.

We saved the best for the last. The final video game on our list that is loved and will continuously be loved for generations to come is the fantasy platform game; Super Mario Bros.
The game normally follows the trend where Mario jumps and hops across platforms and enemies to save the kidnapped Princess Peach from the antagonist, Browser.

The game has taken other forms such as racing in Mario Kart and fighting in Super Smash Bros. The game is one cherished worldwide and has made our childhood in the 2000s very remarkable.

Do you recall the famous theme song?

The game is developed by Nintendo Games and made its first appearance in 1985.

Did you know: Mario Bros. franchise is the best-selling video game series in history.

That brings us to the end of our list and we hope you liked it.

8 Schools are likely to win this years' NSMQ

8 SCHOOLS WHO ARE LIKELY TO WIN THIS YEARS’ NSMQ      It is probably the most prestigious, most competitive, highly anticipated competition among secondary schools in Ghana. It is the National Science & Maths Quiz and this year's edition has been no exception. There have already been some shocks such as Aburi Girls' Senior High School (ABUGISS) exits the competition with a woeful performance attaining only 15 points and some underdogs already showing some potential. But the 'big guns' are still in the competition and some are already making a buzz in the competition. My name is S from Steezersinfo.blogspot.com and this is our official list on 8 schools who are favorites to win NMSQ 2019.   PRESEC-LEGON     We start with NSMQ royalty PRESEC-Legon. They are no strangers to winning the NSMQ having won it for a record five times (1995, 2003, 2006, 2008 & 2009). They are also the only school to win the competition back-to-back, retaining the titl
