8 SCHOOLS WHO ARE LIKELY TO WIN THIS YEARS’ NSMQ
It is probably the most
prestigious, most competitive, highly anticipated competition among secondary
schools in Ghana. It is the National Science & Maths Quiz and this year's
edition has been no exception. There have already been some shocks such as
Aburi Girls' Senior High School (ABUGISS) exits the competition with a woeful
performance attaining only 15 points and some underdogs already showing some potential. But the 'big guns' are still in the competition and some
are already making a buzz in the competition. My name is S from Steezersinfo.blogspot.com
and this is our official list on 8 schools who are favorites to win NMSQ 2019.
We start with NSMQ royalty
PRESEC-Legon. They are no strangers to winning the NSMQ having won it for a
record five times (1995, 2003, 2006, 2008 & 2009). They are also the only
school to win the competition back-to-back, retaining the title in 2009 after
winning it in 2008. However, the five-time champions haven't won it ever since
and have failed to make it to the finals in recent years. Despite this, they
are still considered to be favorites having put up a great show in their first
contest.
Next up is the pride of
Kumasi, Prempeh College. They are the winners of the first edition and second
most successful school winning it four times (1994, 1996, 2015 & 2017),
just a single title less than their bitter rivals, PRESEC-Legon. They did come
close to equaling PRESEC-Legon's record of winning it back-to-back and five
titles, but were unable to accomplish it last year when they lost to West
African Senior High School (WASS) in the semi-finals. But the AMANFUO are back
this in their quest to win a fifth title.
Next is Adisadel College,
popularly known as ADISCO. Surprisingly, they have won it just once having been
to the finals 4 times coming second once and second runner-up two times. But
the ADISCO boys are not supposed to be counted out just yet having shown some
class in their contest in the one-eighth round. Will Adisadel College break
their finals jinx or are we going to see a repeat this year?
Also in our list is the
Mfantsipim School. The Botwe boys are 2 time champions winning it in in 1999
and 2014. They did put up quite the performance last year humiliating
PRESEC-Legon in the quarter final in a contest which had heavy Presecan
supporter presence but failed to make it to the finals. The Botwe boys will be
heavily represented in NSMQ 2019 as they look winning a third title and extend
their lead as the Central Region School with most titles.
Now, it is quite a
shame that no girls' school have won the NSMQ before. But, that doesn't mean
that none of them should be considered as favorites to win this years' title.
Never winning it in their history, Wesley Girls' Senior High School are the
girls' school which came closest to winning the NSMQ, coming second in their
only final. But the 'Wey Gey Hey' girls have started this years' contest
strongly by winning their first contest by 55 points. Will the Wesleyan girls'
be the first ever girls' school to win the NSMQ or will there be another
disappointment for the girl? Maybe not this time around….. maybe.
OPOKU WARE SENIOR
HIGH SCHOOL
Next up, is Opoku Ware Senior High School. The Akatakyire are two-time champions winning it in 1997 and 2002. But OWASS (as they are popularly known by), haven't won the competition in 17 years. To much disappointment, they have been to the finals seven times, more than any other school except PRESEC-Legon (also 7 finals) and PERSCO (8 finals), being runner-ups five times (Wow! That's more than Prempeh have won). But OWASS will look to sing the victory song again this year around starting strong in the competition.

Up next, we have
Achimota School. The Motown boys and girls are twice champions and also the
only mixed school to win the NSMQ. They won it back in 1998 and 2004, but luck
has not been on their side as the have been to final two additional times and
coming second twice. But, Motown, this year, have come with a new flair they've
already eliminated St. Thomas Aquinas Boys and Nkwatia Presby in a competitive
contest. Motown might just have enough steam to win this years' NSMQ.
ST. PETERS’ BOYS' SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Lastly, we look at defending champions St.
Peter's Boys' Senior High School. The three-time champions (2000, 2005 &
2018) won last year's NSMQ with just a point in between them and the runners-up
and will look to defend their title this year. The Persco boys have already
eased through their first contest winning with 55 points. The Eastern Region
based school will look to cling their fourth-title and successfully retain the
NSMQ. Well we'll see about that.
So who will
win the 2019 National Science and Maths Quiz? Who will carry the bragging
rights for the next year as 2019 National Science & Maths Quiz champions?
Will the Odade3 extend their all-time lead or will Prempeh catch up with them?
Will Persco retain their title this year or will Adisco lose in the finals
again? Let us know your opinion in the comment section below.
